Abstract
I. Introduction
Intentional replantation (IR) is a technique in which a tooth is intentionally extracted and reinserted into its socket immediately after endodontic treatment and apical repair outside the oral cavity. The indications for performing replantation are failed previous nonsurgical root canal treatment, anatomic limitations, persistent chronic pain, or patient management. The following case reports describe the treatment of a persistent non?healing tooth with intentional replanatation.
II. Case Presentation
1. Sex/age: F/25
2. Chief Complaint: Toothache on #36
3. Past Dental History: Previous Root canal treatment on #36 two years ago
4. Present Illness: sinus tract (+) pus discharge(+)/ per (++) mob (-)
5. Impression: Periapical abscess with sinus to oral cavity on #36
6. Tx Plan: Intentional replantation on #36
1. Sex/age: M/59
2. Chief Complaint: Toothache on #17
3. Past Dental History: Previous Root canal treatment on #17 one year ago
4. Present Illness: per (+) bite (+) mob (-) normal PD
5. Impression: Chronic apical periodontitis on #17
6. Tx Plan: Re-root canal treatment on #17, if needed, intentional replantation will be accomplished.
III. Conclusion:
Intentional replantation is a reliable and predictable procedure that may be regarded as a last resort when treating teeth with persistent non-healing lesion. Careful case selection and use of proper replantation protocol should be considered to minimize complications.
